Movement for Justice Demonstration at the High Commission of Jamaica, London, UK – February 2019

Charter flights to Jamaica were suspended in the wake of the Windrush Scandal until now. Families and their supporters gathered outside the High Commission of Jamaica to protest against the policies that would tear their families apart. Unfortunately the peaceful demonstration outside the building was interrupted by armed police. Apparently someone within the building had felt that the collection of siblings, mothers and grandmothers of the incarcerated posed such a threat that an armed response was necessary.

The police left soon after, no violence, and the demonstration continued on as planned. Phone calls to detention centres were broadcast to the crowd while family members told stories about their loved ones. This hostile environment policy enacted by the current Conservative administration does little but cause pain, suffering and tears families apart. When will it end?
