Puythock Refugee Camp, Grande-Synthe, France – October 2018

Since the destruction of the La Liniere Refugee Camp in 2017 due to huge fires, communities of mostly Kurdish origin have been sleeping in a nature reserve called Puythock. Ever fluctuating numbers means it is hard to say at any one given time how many people are there but by October 2018, numbers were approximately 1000.

Families cooked in the forest, bathed in the lake and even started construction of a school and café. A sharp incongruity would be witnessed as citizens of the nearby town of Grande-Synthe, went for their morning jog through the tent city constructed within the woods.
