For most of 2018 a community of around 150 Eritreans lived in a small park between a motorway and a residential area in Calais. They moved from one of the larger camps in Calais to avoid rising tensions between different groups.
Here you could always hear the sounds of music and singing. Local residents would walk through the park, the refugees playing football with their kids. Refugee Info Bus discovered that the guys had an affinity for darts and thus began a love affair with the game. The organisation would attempt to leave but always have to stay “five more minutes” to allow the game to reach its completion.
Eventually the local government evicted the encampment, building a fence around the park. Former residents of the camp can now be found sleeping rough under bridges and on the streets.
